WEBMERCIALS & VIRAL MARKETING ARE WORTH TALKING ABOUT! by Karla Darocas

Webmercials are part of the new mass media broadcasting and marketing culture, whereby with a little inspiration and a clear message, you can spread your business around the globe.

Never before in the history of communications has it been easier to spread the word about your business than in this age of cybernetics. Now you can have an immediate audience around the clock and around the world talking about you and your products and services.

With computers in every office and in every home and public building, it is mass communications within the global village.

Viral marketing uses webmercials as an advertising strategy. The premise to viral marketing is based on how-to tap into an existing social network and get your messages out there using self-replicating viral processes that are very similar to good old fashion gossip spreading through a social circle, or in a physical way, a flu virus spreading through a local community.

Viral marketing campaigns and webmercias are very successful and in most cases less expensive than any other marketing campaign. A great webmercial will make people want to pass it on and once they do - you are building awareness of your event or strengthen your brand.

Of course viral campaigns and webmercials are quickly growing in popularity because they are low in cost compared to something like direct mail, and they have excellent targeting, tracking and response facilities. What other marketing campaign tracks how many eyeballs has seen it?

Webmercials are more attractive to modern marketers as a way to keep their customer base connected to them. They are also a better alterative to email spamming – which no one likes! Webmercials encourage your reader to spread the “word” in a positive way.

What kind of webmercials are worth talking about?

When designing your viral marketing campaign you might want to consider taking a look at YouTube.com and see what videos are getting the biggest audiences.

My favourite campaign was a warm and fuzzy approach to a webmercial with a unique and universal message. Free-Hugs.com viral campaign was based on this webmercial - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr3x_RRJdd4

However, your webmercial might be based around some kind of controversial issue or it might be slap-stick funny. Whichever you decide, make sure that it is special and that it has your website address, products and services clearly displayed, along with your message.

Here is a webmercial that I created for a real estate project in Honduras – www.HondurasInvest.ning.com . This webmercial only took me a few minutes to create and everyday people tell me how wonderful it is. Without this webmercial, this project would be boring!

If you would like to learn more about creating webmercials and the concepts of Viral Marketing on the Internet, I am always looking for students!
