The fresh air supply "ventilation" accounts for approximately half of total heating and cooling expenses.

The problems to be solved
In a year-round use the traditional heat recovery ventilators waste significant amounts of energy when the system brings outdoor air and feeds

It into the entire system, and the quality of the supply air is unhealthy due to bacteria, mould etc.
90% annual efficiency halves expenses and dramatically reduces initial costs
On the Arctic Circle we have innovated and multi patented the ventilation heat recovery unit halving heat and humidification energy consumption.

The idea of the airAC Enthalpy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) is based on the best features of two most efficient regenerative air-to-air counter flow principles, which cyclically can store and release heat combined with humidity. The patented method minimises heat loss in winter based on non-freezing method.

Due to global warming it is more important that the very same unit reduces cooling and dehumidification costs even more than half.

Concerning cooling airAC more than eliminates heat loss based on free and natural evaporative cooling, which exceptionally takes place in high humid and warm conditions as well.

Takes advantage of the latent heat
Instead of rotating a heavy metal heat exchanger the patented airAC method rotates a light and reliable air valve combined with aluminium plate heat exchanger.

Every cycle is accompanied by heat absorption or release and associated constant pressure level eliminating water condensation and frosting.

The airAC heat recovery has been designed to maintain the indoor airAC's temperature and relative humidity at an optimum level. By integrating humidification function in winter and dehumidification in summer, the airAC principle achieves much higher Seasonal Performance Factor (SPF) and decreases unit costs.

In winter, sufficient moist indoor air permits a 0.5 °C drop in temperature, that in itself already mean a 2.5% reduction in heating expenses.

The latent heat is recently not utilised and thus SPF is relatively low.

Easy maintenance - enhanced safety, security and convenience
Due to the unique principle our heat exchangers and ducting need very low maintenance. After 6 year use the airAC heat exchangers were as clean as new ones "bacteria and mould growth is eliminated" without cleaning and air filters! The cross contamination of air flows is only 1%.

Multipatented
The first units have been available since 1996, and the first patent was granted 1997.

The airAC ERV exceptionally can be integrated with compressor cooling and heat pump.

The unique modification is to integrate recuperative and regenerative heat exchangers for energy-efficient air drying by dry outdoor air in winter.

Air conditioning


Heat and humidity loads of the AC are caused by

Ventilation (fresh air),
External reasons such as sun, and
Internal reasons like people, TV, computer.
Those loads must be covered. Otherwise indoor air is uncomfortable. Comfort Parameters of indoor air are; temperature 25oC and humidity 55 % RH. The Recycling Energy Outdoor Heat Recovery unit reduces even more than 90 % of ventilation and humidity loads. This means up to 40 % power savings. Our Enthalpy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) can be combined with existing ventilation/AC system.

Fresh indoor air is required

People all over the world have major health problems due poor indoor air quality. On the other hand indoor air in a conditioned space can be up to 20 times more polluted than outdoor air. Therefore Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is very important. The quantity of fresh air required by a person is 20 CFM (Cubic Feet per Min per person). In practice this means that the air volume must be changed 1 - 3 times per hour.

Contaminated indoor air can be fatal

This outside air brings with it moisture and heat form outside. This causes the heat and humidity load on the AC system to go up thereby requiring a larger and consequently more expensive plant. Therefore the most AC manufacturers recommend users to shut off the system when not in use. Our engineers have over 30 years experience of ventilation in extreme conditions. We have noticed that when the ventilation is off, indoor humidity problems increase causing contamination of the indoor environment by the growth bacteria, fungi, mold, viruses and mildew, sometimes even Legionella Pneumophila, which can be fatal. This is called Sick Building Syndrome (SBS).

Recycling Energy AC system solves the syndrome between fresh air and power savings

Conventional AC systems pump out heat and moisture from within the space. Instead of that Recycling Energy AC system does not allow heat and moisture to come in.

If the conventional heat reduction is 20 oC, Recycling Energy has to cool only 2 oC as follows:

- Humidity volume g/m3: RH 55 % RH 80%

45 oC 19,2 56,8


Difference: conventionally 42,4; Recycling Energy 28,2 g/m3

Heat capacity of dry air 0,31 kcal/m3
Heat capacity of condensation of vapor 0,61 kcal/g
Conventionally: 20,0 x 0,31 + 42,4 x 0,61 = 32,1 kcal/m3 = 6.420 kcal/200m3
Recycling Energy: 2,0 x 0,31 + 28,2 x 0,61 = 17,8 kcal/m3 = 3.560 kcal/200m3
RESULTS: conventional energy use 6.420 kcal
recycling energy use 3.560 kcal
SAVINGS: 2.860 kcal = 45 %

Solar Cooling

Thermoelectric (Peltier) Module A typical thermoelectric module consists of an array of Bismuth Telluride semiconductor pellets that have been doped positive or negative. The pairs of P/N pellets are connected electrically in series and thermally in parallel. When DC voltage is applied to the module, positive and negative charge carriers in the semiconductor material absorp heat energy on one substrate surface and release it on the opposite surface. The surface where heat is absorbed becomes cold. The opposite surface where heat energy is released becomes hot. The efficiency depends on the capacity of cooling of the heat sink. Conventionally cooling takes place by a fan being the efficiency quite modest. The module can use photovoltaic (PV) cells. The maximum operating temperature is +120oC.

Absorption cooling
The conventional absorption system is powered by a gas flame with a temperature of about +150oC. The newest absorption technology enables to achieve generator temperature of +80oC. Thus thermal solar collector can be used. The system requires electricity for the fans.

The combination is Solar Cooling

The Recycling Energy Solar Cooler cools the heat sink of thermoelectric module by the generator of absorption cooling device. Thus all heat energy is used for cooling. The fans use electricity generated by photovoltaics (if required through a battery).

The benefits are:

Only Solar energy is needed,
The Coefficient Of Performance (COP) is very good,
No moving parts (except fans),
The life expectancy is almost infinite under normal use,
Excess power during peak daytime hours can be sold to utilities, and
Available for ventilation preheating system.
The Solar Cooling System is totally independent of electric power grid and it can use waste heat energy produced in engines etc.

Further options are:

The Recycling Energy Dual Fuel Oil/Gas burner (by oil: without electricity and minimum capacity less than one kW) can be used for Combined Heat and Power (CHP) generation, and
The system can be integrated into Recycling Energy Enthalpy Recovery Ventilator (ERV).
Air-conditioning for vehicles

Our thermodynamic system combines elements of thermoelectric (Peltier) module and the newest absorption cooling as follows:

Energy source can be any supply of

Hot (waste) water from engine etc. or/and
Solar cell or/and battery.
No moving parts.

Can be used when the engine is not on.

High energy efficiency.

Power generation.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST URGENT PROBLEM?

The greenhouse effect has always existed, keeping the Earth warmer than it would be without atmosphere. What is popularly referred to today as the ´greenhouse effect´ is really the anthropogenigally enhanced greenhouse effect by which an extra warming of the surface and the lower atmosphere is produced, leading to disturbances in the geosphere/biosphere system and notably, an increase in the mean global surface temperature and in the mean sea level.

By increasing the concentration of greenhouse gases, however, additional infra-red radiation, which otherwise would have been lost to space, is absorbed in the lower atmosphere and the Earth´s radiation balance is upset. This energy is re-emitted in all directions, a large portion being sent back to the Earth´s surface or elsewhere in the troposphere. This yields a radiative imbalance which can be restored through a warming of the troposphere.

Earth is like a pot with cover. According to the laws of thermodynamics if there is warmth enough, the warming will happen automatically by itself. This is an endothermic reaction. Earth is out of balance. It is like a rolling snowball. What happens if the mountain is big enough?

Contributions to the greenhouse effect are: CO2 55 %, CH4 15 %, N20 6 % and others (CFCs) 24 %. The concept of relative global warming potentials (GWPs) has been developed as an index of the relative radiative effect (and, hence, potential climate effect) of equal emissions of each of the greenhouse gases, to take into account the different absorption potentials. The GWPs are: CO2 1, CH4 20 - 60, N2O 270, others up to 6000. This is the reason that 1 kg of beef releases over 0,5 kg, and 1 kg rice releases 0,3 kg methane.

Emissions should be reduced at such a rate that ecosystem can adapt naturally to climatological changes.

Our proposals are lower energy consumption, use of renewable energy, higher burning efficiency of fossil energy production and transportation, cleaning of emission pollution, high recovery of heat from emissions .

Renewables already supply about 20 % of the world´s energy. The renewable sources can be small, local and quick to develop, allowing cost-effective and flexible planning. We can minimize transmissions and distribution losses, while strengthening the overall electricity improving reliability.

On the Arctic Circle we know a lot of heating as well cooling!
